Thomas Sinden has partnered with Actavo | Hire & Sales to provide access solutions for a large extension and refurbishment project at Southern Road primary school in Newham, London.

A leading supplier of non-mechanical construction equipment, Actavo | Hire & Sales Solutions specified, designed and provided onsite technical support on almost 300m2 of Rhino Load Deck at the school, saving the project a valuable two weeks of build time.

Thomas Sinden construction specialists – who traditionally used birdcage scaffolding systems on its construction sites – used the Rhino Load Deck system for the first time as a safety platform inside the building shell. The load deck provides a means of access for bricklayers and roofing contractors to work on, as well as offering a fall prevention solution.

Having a long-standing relationship with Thomas Sinden, Actavo London’s branch manager, Steve Napier, saw the opportunity to introduce Rhino Load Deck using its in-house training facility. He says: “The system provides a safe way to work at height and is recognised as one of the most stable load decks and fall prevention solutions on the market, capable of supporting loads of up to 600kg per square metre.

“We advised Thomas Sinden to move away from traditional methods and try something new and they’re now reaping the benefits. Our team provided technical services and onsite support to site managers where it was needed, thereby further reducing man hours and completion times for our customer.”

John Gosnell, site manager at Thomas Sinden, says: “As with all schools, the build time for this project was critical and we had to minimise the disruption for the school. Rhino Load Deck saved us time and money due to its fast assembly and ability to raise productivity by taking heavy loads of both tools and materials. We were extremely pleased with this product and the expertise of the Actavo team. Rhino Load Deck will be our system of choice for future projects.”

Actavo introduced the Rhino Load Deck system in 2008 and it has since become one of its most popular scaffolding solutions. It provides free-standing, multi-level platforms, suitable for working at heights of up to three metres.

The Rhino Load Deck’s robust, precision components fit together securely without using hand tools and two workmen can fit up to 50m2 an hour, compared to the more labour-intensive traditional birdcage scaffolding. As a result, site managers can expect Rhino Load Deck to be fully operational six to ten times faster than other traditional scaffolding solutions available on the market.[i]

The Rhino Load Deck Technical Service offers site managers an all-encompassing hire, installation and dismantle option, as well as support with access solutions that are available at the point of need. Actavo’s Technical Service uses a highly-skilled and experienced team, thereby reducing man hours and completion times.

Actavo | Hire & Sales offers the Rhino Load Deck system for both sale and hire. For customers who prefer to hire the Rhino Load Deck on a job-by-job basis, the company offers a full site survey and design service with transport and expert onsite assembly.

Actavo | Hire & Sales has a 33-branch network across the UK and Ireland, with plans for further expansion later this year.
